Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines

Formatting, structure, and citation standards for manuscripts submitted to J2MR.

General Submission Requirements

  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review by another journal or publisher.
  • Manuscripts must be written in English (or Indonesian, if permitted by the editorial team), using clear, formal academic language.
  • Submissions must be prepared in Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) format, using A4 paper size, 1-inch (2.54 cm) margins on all sides, Times New Roman 12pt font, and 1.5 line spacing.
  • Manuscript length should generally be between 3,000 and 6,000 words (excluding references, tables, and figures), unless otherwise agreed with the editor.
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a signed Author Statement of Originality and, where applicable, an Ethics Approval/Informed Consent statement.

Manuscript Structure

 
Title Page
Concise, informative title (max. 20 words); full names, affiliations, and ORCID IDs of all authors; corresponding author's email address.
 
Abstract and Keywords
A structured abstract (Background, Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion) of 200–250 words, followed by 3–5 keywords arranged alphabetically and separated by semicolons.
 
Introduction
Background, problem statement, brief literature review, research gap, and clearly stated research objectives.
 
Methods
Study design, population/sample and sampling technique, research instruments, data collection procedures, data analysis methods, and a statement of ethical approval (including ethics committee reference number).
 
Results
Objective presentation of findings, supported by clearly labeled tables and/or figures, without interpretation or discussion.
 
Discussion
Interpretation of findings in relation to existing literature, clinical or practical implications for midwifery practice, and acknowledgment of study limitations.
 
Conclusion, Acknowledgments & References
A concise conclusion answering the research objective; optional acknowledgments and funding/conflict-of-interest statements; and a complete reference list formatted according to the citation style below.

Tables and Figures

  • Tables and figures must be numbered sequentially (Table 1, Table 2 ... Figure 1, Figure 2 ...) and referenced in the main text.
  • Each table/figure must have a concise, descriptive caption placed above the table or below the figure.
  • Tables should be created using the Word table tool (not as images) and kept as simple as possible.
  • Figures should be submitted in high resolution (minimum 300 dpi) in JPEG, PNG, or TIFF format.

Citation and Reference Style

J2MR uses the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition citation style for both in-text citations and the reference list. Authors are strongly encouraged to manage their references using a reference management application such as Mendeley, Zotero, or EndNote to ensure consistency and accuracy.

Bibliographic Standards

  • A minimum of 25 references is recommended for original research articles and at least 40 references for review articles.
  • At least 80% of references should come from sources published within the last 5–10 years, prioritizing primary sources (original research articles) over secondary sources.
  • References should predominantly be drawn from reputable, peer-reviewed journals (nationally accredited/SINTA-indexed or internationally indexed in Scopus/Web of Science).
  • Excessive self-citation of the author's own previous work should be avoided.
  • The reference list must be arranged alphabetically by the first author's surname and formatted with a hanging indent, consistent with APA 7th Edition style.

Copyright Ownership

Authors who publish with the Journal of Midwifery, Maternal and Reproductive Health Studies (J2MR) retain the copyright of their own work. Authors grant J2MR the right of first publication, while retaining full ownership of the intellectual content of their manuscript.

By submitting a manuscript to J2MR, the corresponding author confirms, on behalf of all co-authors, that the work is original, has not been published elsewhere, and does not infringe upon the copyright or intellectual property rights of any third party.

License Granted to the Journal

Data Sharing and Third Parties

No Sale or Unauthorized Disclosure
J2MR does not sell, rent, or trade the personal data of its users. Personal information is not disclosed to third parties except where necessary to operate the journal (e.g., indexing services, plagiarism-detection tools, or hosting infrastructure) or where required by law.
Indexing and Abstracting Services
Published article metadata, including author names, affiliations, and abstracts, may be shared with indexing and abstracting services (such as SINTA, Google Scholar, Crossref, DOAJ, or similar databases) to support the discoverability of published research.

Data Storage and Security

Personal data submitted to J2MR is stored on the journal's Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform, hosted and managed by Poltekkes Kemenkes Kendari.
