Abstract

One of the problems of excess nutrition that occurs in children and adolescents and gets special attention in the world of health is obesity. Some of the risk factors that cause obesity, especially in adolescents, are lifestyle changes. The COVID-19 pandemic has increased the risk of obesity in children and adolescents due to lifestyle changes. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between fast food consumption and the incidence of overweight and obesity during the COVID-19 pandemic. This study uses a research design in the form of an analytic type with a cross-sectional approach. Subjects were taken using purposive non-probability sampling and obtained as many as 201 students as respondents in this study. This research was conducted boldly by giving a questionnaire via google form. Statistical analysis used a 2x2 table with chi-square test and the results were female subjects with an average age of 20.30 years. In this study, it was found that 98 (48.7%) subjects suffered from excess nutrition, namely overweight and obesity, also most of the subjects (69.2%) experienced weight gain during the COVID-19 pandemic. In this study, it was also found that before the pandemic period there were 50 (24.9%) subjects who consumed fast food 3x/week and during the pandemic there were 70 (34.8%) subjects who consumed fast food 3x/week. From this study it can be said that there is no significant relationship between fast food consumption habits and nutritional status (p = 0.580), with a prevalence value ratio of 0.849 meaning that students who eat fast food 3x/week have a 0.849 times greater risk of developing diabetes. the impact of obesity compared with students who eat fast food < 3x/week.
