Abstract

Osteoporosis is a condition in which there is an imbalance in bone resorption and remodeling which causes a decrease in bone mineral density and increases the risk of fractures, which is often experienced in people who have growth hormone deficiency. Growth hormone therapy is given with the aim of increasing bone mineral density by encouraging bone formation, resorption and replacement in people with growth hormone deficiency. The purpose of this review is to determine the effectiveness and role of growth hormone therapy in increasing bone mineral density in an effort to reduce the risk of osteoporosis, which is a risk factor for fractures in patients with growth hormone deficiency. Literature search through collecting data from articles related to giving growth hormone therapy to increasing bone density in the 2013-2023 period using databases in the form of Pubmed, Google Scholar, Ebsco, Medline, Cochrane, and Hindawi. GH therapy can increase bone density by up to 3.5% and reduce the risk of fractures by up to 28%. GD deficiency is associated with low level of bone replacement, leading to reduced bone density. GH acts by promoting IGF-1 synthesis in osteoblasts by promoting bone turnover, including the additional of makers of bone resorption. So that there is an increase in bone mineral density and can reduce the risk of fractures.
