Abstract

Preeclampsia is one of the leading causes of maternal and infant mortality in Indonesia, with eclampsia accounting for 24% of maternal deaths in 2023. Wawatu Village, North Moramo Subdistrict, South Konawe Regency, is a coastal area with limited access to health information and facilities; a preliminary survey found a preeclampsia incidence of 12.5% among pregnant women, while their knowledge and self-detection skills remained low. This community service program aimed to improve the knowledge and skills of mothers/women of reproductive age (WRA) in independently detecting early signs of preeclampsia and to establish the “MADINI” (Independent Early Detection) Post as a sustainable detection facility. The method involved education, simulation, and guided independent practice of urine protein and blood pressure examination among 30 mothers/WRA over two program days, evaluated with a pretest-posttest design. Results showed the proportion of participants in the good category increased from 30.0% to 90.0% for knowledge, from 20.0% to 86.7% for urine protein examination skills, and from 36.7% to 100% for blood pressure examination skills. The program was effective in strengthening maternal independence in early preeclampsia detection and requires sustained mentoring of the MADINI Post by cadres and village midwives.
