JHNC is committed to safeguarding originality and academic integrity by screening every submitted manuscript using iThenticate.

Overview

The Journal of Holistic Nursing and Clinical Innovation (JHNC) maintains a strict policy against plagiarism in any form, including verbatim copying, paraphrasing without proper citation, and self-plagiarism. To uphold the originality and scientific integrity of every published article, JHNC screens all submitted manuscripts using iThenticate, a plagiarism detection software widely trusted by scholarly publishers, developed by Turnitin.

iThenticate compares submitted manuscripts against billions of web pages, academic publications, and cross-publisher content databases to generate a similarity report, allowing editors to make informed and consistent decisions regarding manuscript originality.

Similarity Index Policy

Manuscripts submitted to JHNC must meet the following similarity index thresholds, as measured by iThenticate:

≤ 20%

Acceptable

Manuscript proceeds directly to the editorial and peer review process.

21% – 30%

Conditional

Authors are required to revise and reduce textual similarity before further processing.

> 30%

Rejected

Manuscript is automatically rejected and returned to the corresponding author.

Note: Similarity attributed to standard phrases, references, methodology descriptions, or properly quoted material is evaluated contextually by the editorial team and may not be treated as plagiarism.

Screening Workflow

Initial Screening at Submission

Every manuscript is screened through iThenticate immediately upon submission, prior to being assigned to the editorial workflow or peer reviewers.

Editorial Evaluation of the Similarity Report

The Editor-in-Chief and section editor review the generated similarity report, distinguishing genuine overlaps (such as improperly cited text) from acceptable matches (such as references, standard terminology, or quoted material).

Author Notification and Revision

If the similarity index falls within the conditional range, authors are notified and required to revise the manuscript to reduce textual similarity before the manuscript proceeds to peer review.

Secondary Screening Before Publication

Accepted manuscripts undergo a second iThenticate screening after revisions and prior to final publication, ensuring the similarity index remains within the acceptable threshold at the point of publication.

Post-Publication Monitoring

JHNC reserves the right to re-screen published articles if plagiarism concerns are raised after publication, and to issue corrections or retractions in accordance with the journal's Publication Ethics Policy.

Author's Responsibility

Prior to submission, authors are strongly encouraged to conduct an independent similarity check of their manuscript and to ensure that all sources are properly cited according to the journal's referencing style. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarized content at any stage of the editorial process—including after acceptance or publication—will be subject to rejection, retraction, and notification to the author's affiliated institution, in accordance with JHNC's Publication Ethics Policy.
