Introduction: Otitis Media (OM) is an ear infection with a high prevalence in children. Immune system regulation is often a complex issue behind the progression and the occurrence of complications in children with OM. However, until now effective therapy for the long-term protection against infection still has not yet been determined. Therefore, this research was conducted to summarize various evidences regarding the role of vitamin D as one of the micronutrients in overcoming OM. Methods: A literature search regarding the role of vitamin D towards OM was conducted through databases namely ScienceDirect, Google Scholar, PubMed, and Wiley by prioritizing studies published in the last five years. Results: Various studies have revealed the protective role of vitamin D in regulating the body's immune response towards infectious pathogens. The incidence of OM in children is significantly associated with vitamin D deficiency, in contrast, vitamin D supplementation has been shown to have a protective role against the development of OM in children. Conclusion: Vitamin D supplementation can be considered as an effective preventive measure as well as therapy in preventing OM and the progression of OM in children. Dosage recommendations should be researched and reconsidered as a reference for the wider community in dealing with OM.
