Background: One of the complications of dibetic foot ulcers is ankle joint contracture which makes it difficult to walk. Diabetic foot exercise can increase muscle strength. This study aims to explain the effect of diabetic foot exercises on reducing ankle joint contractures in patients with diabetic foot ulcers. Methods: The Quasy Experiment method was used in this study with the Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design approach. The study population was 28 diabetic foot ulcer patients at the General Surgery Clinic of Bhakti Dharma Husada Hospital. The sample in this study were 28 diabetic foot ulcer patients, divided into treatment and control groups and who met the inclusion criteria using purposive sampling technique. The intervention given was diabetic foot exercise for 6x in 2 weeks. Research data were taken with observation sheets and goniometers. Results: The results of the Wilcoxon sign rank test showed a value of p=0.003 <0.05, meaning that there was a decrease in ankle joint contracture before and after diabetic foot exercise was given. Conclusions: Diabetic foot exercises have an effect in reducing ankle joint contractures because blood circulation improves and small muscles are stronger than before. The results of this study can be used as a source of information so that nurses can manage patients with diabetic foot ulcers so that the incidence of ankle joint contractures decrease.
