Gastrointestinal bleeding is divided into two categories, upper and lower gastrointestinal bleeding which are separated by the ligament of Treitz. Taking Dual Antiplatelet Therapy such as a combination of Aspirin and Adenosine Diphosphate Receptor Antagonist has a higher risk of gastrointestinal bleeding. Administration of Proton Pump Inhibitors together with antiplatelets can prevent complications of gastrointestinal bleeding in patients taking antiplatelets. Proton Pump Inhibitors consisting of Omeprazole, Esomeprazole, Lansoprazole, Dexlansoprazole, Pantoprazole, and Rabeprazole work by reducing acid secretion in the gaster which is known to cause impaired platelet aggregation and result in decreased blood coagulation ability.Related literature reviews were searched using Pubmed, Google scholar, Medline, Ebsco, Hindawi, Science direct and Cochrane which were published in last 10 years. After obtaining the appropriate literature, the manuscript is written. Antisecretory drugs especially Proton Pump Inhibitors can reduce gastrointestinal complications due to antiplatelet by strongly inhibiting gastric acid secretion by directly inhibiting proton pumps which can prevent antiplatelet induced gastrointestinal complications. Another study states that giving antiplatelet therapy and using Proton Pump Inhibitors simultaneously can reduce the risk of upper gastrointestinal bleeding. The cause of gastrointestinal bleeding is the consumption of antiplatelets. One way to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding is to take Proton Pump Inhibitors. Proton Pump Inhibitors have been proven in the literature to reduce the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding in patients taking antiplatelets.
