Abstract

Heart disease and hypertension are major health problems among coastal communities due to high sodium consumption patterns, limited access to health services, and low literacy regarding evidence-based complementary therapies. This community service activity aimed to improve the knowledge of coastal communities in Toronipa Village, Soropia Subdistrict, regarding heart disease prevention through education on the Quran Therapy Application (ATAQ) and cupping therapy. The implementation method used a one-group pre-test and post-test design, targeting 60 coastal community members, through interactive lectures, educational videos, booklet distribution, and direct practice demonstrations of both therapies. Evaluation results showed an increase in participants' knowledge of ATAQ (mean score from 2.55 pre-test to 1.20 post-test) and cupping therapy (mean score from 2.90 pre-test to 1.45 post-test), using a scoring category of 1=good, 2=moderate, 3=poor, so the score decrease indicated improved understanding. Two-week follow-up monitoring showed that some participants had independently applied ATAQ. It is concluded that combined education using lectures, audiovisual media, and practice demonstrations effectively improved coastal communities' knowledge of complementary therapies as a promotive and preventive effort against heart disease, thus recommended as a sustainable community-based health promotion model in coastal areas.
