Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease that is a public health problem in Indonesia, especially in Jayapura, because it can cause high morbidity and mortality rates and trigger Extraordinary Events (KLB). Jayapura is an endemic malaria area. One effort to reduce the level of mortality and morbidity of malaria is through proper examination, both of symptoms and treatment. Therefore, laboratory diagnosis carried out by malaria microscopic laboratory personnel needs to be controlled to ensure the quality of malaria microscopic laboratory personnel. The aim of this study was to evaluate the capability of malaria microscopic laboratory personnel in the Public Health Center laboratory in the Jayapura city area by calculating the values ??of sensitivity, specificity, species identification accuracy and error rate. This type of research is descriptive with a cross-sectional design. The population is all malaria slides, which have been examined by malaria microscopic laboratory staff at the Jayapura City Public Health Center laboratory. The number of samples was 13 malaria microscopic laboratory staff at 13 Jayapura City Health Centers. Research Results: showed that there were 7 (53.8%) Community Health Center laboratories that received good scores, there were 3 (23.1%) laboratories that received adequate scores and 3 (23.1%) laboratories received poor scores. Conclusion: The quality of malaria diagnosis in Jayapura City is generally good, but there is still the potential for diagnostic errors, especially in terms of differentiating malaria parasite species. Quality improvement efforts can be made by providing continuous training to prevent misdiagnosis.
