Empowering Families and Posyandu Cadres through IEC on Oxytocin Massage and Handling Breastfeeding Problems in Atowatu Village, Soropia District

The Indonesian government committed to supporting the first thousand days of live movement as stated in the Presidential Regulation concerning the National Movement to Accelerate Nutrition Improvement through exclusive breastfeeding. However, sometimes during breastfeeding, problems often arise that result the baby not getting exclusive breastfeeding. In order for mothers to be successful in breastfeeding, moral assistance is needed in the form of support from families, Posyandu cadres and health workers. One of them is by involving the husband and family in breastfeeding through the implementation of oxytocin massage. Oxytocin massage can affect the smooth production of breast milk so it is very influential in breastfeeding in the first 6 months. This community service aimed to increase the role of families and cadres in the implementation of oxytocin massage and handling breastfeeding problems in Atowatu Village, Soropia District. The targets of this activity are pregnant, lactating mothers, mothers with babies 0-24 months, Posyandu cadres, husbands and mothers' families in Atowatu Village. The method of this community service activity is giving pretest, lecture, demonstration and question and answer as well as posttest. The results of the questionnaire data obtained information that the lowest score during the pretest was 2, and the highest score during the pretest was 10. The average score during the pretest was 7.2. After given education about oxytocin massage, the lowest score was 7 and the highest score was 10. The average post-test score was 9.1. The provision of communication, information and education (IEC) is able to increase the knowledge and skills of participants in doing oxytocin massage and to know the problems in breastfeeding and handle them.
