Abstract

Smoking habit has become a major health problem that occurs in various countries. The friendship factor can also be a driving force for a late teenager to start smoking. This type of research is a quantitative descriptive research to explain the relationship between friendship environment and smoking behavior in UINSU IV Tuntungan students in 2023, while the study design used was cross sectional. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between the influence of the friendly environment and smoking behavior in male students at UINSU IV Tuntungan in 2023. The results stated that smokers from the total number of respondents stated that as many as 54.3% of students chose to smoke when hanging out with friends and for smokers 45.7% they did not smoke when hanging out and chose other activities to smoke. It is stated that as many as 80% of smokers smoke due to environmental factors.To reduce social influence on smoking behavior, it is important to increase individual awareness about the negative effects of smoking on health and quality of life.
